Size

Skip bins come in many different sizes, ranging from mini skips at 2 cubic metres up to 30 cubic metres. The size you choose will be dependent on your need. You want to hire one that is larger than your anticipated need as this will give you room for errors in your estimation and keep you from going over the weight limits of the skip bins. Generally, the smaller units will be good for renovations of a small bathroom or maybe a small garage clean-out. Acceptable Items

Once you have your skip bins for your project, you will need to know what you can and cannot put in them. Most things can be placed in skip bins; however, there are a number of items that are not allowed. These items include refrigerators, hazardous materials, televisions and mattresses. Weight Limits

Along with prohibited items, skip bins have weight limits. These limits must be adhered to in order to avoid extra costs or having to hire another skip to move some of the items. The general guideline in regard to weight limits is 1 metric tonne per cubic metre. That means if you have a 6 cubic metre skip bin, you can put approximately 6 metric tonnes of weight in it. These limits are important as they will allow the hire company to stay within regulations when they remove the skip bins from your property.
